LDA's January 2026 bylaw revisions are the most significant in nearly a decade. Here's a plain English summary of the changes that will affect most homeowners and buyers.

Key changes at a glance

  • Setback requirements increased by 1 ft for plots over 1 kanal
  • Commercial conversion fee restructured, now tiered by road width
  • Mandatory rainwater harvesting connection for plots over 10 marla
  • Solar ready electrical conduit now required on all new approvals
  • Construction completion certificate deadline tightened to 3 years

What this means for buyers

If you're buying a plot you intend to build on within the next year, the new setbacks may reduce your covered area slightly on larger plots. The rainwater and solar conduit requirements add roughly PKR 1.5 to 2.5 lac to construction cost, but reduce long term utility bills meaningfully.
